Intro:
Joanne Kathleen may not be a name people are familiar with. But the name J.K. Rowling and her award-winning series Harry Potter definitely has been heard, even to people who are not a fan of either. She didn’t change the world, she didn’t invent something outstanding, but she gave literature to my generation and she gave us fans our childhood. “It’s real for us.”
Point one and two are all facts sooo Point 3:
Remember back to when you were eleven or twelve and one of your friends first mentioned Harry Potter to you. Even if you never got into it, I’m sure you still read part of it. This book brought back reading to a generation that grew up on 100+ cable channels, that had technology compulsively being thrust at us. The generation of video games and computers. Harry Potter brought back literacy to children, especially our generation. For ten years, some of us grew up with Harry. We celebrated his wins, we mourned his losses, and we thirsted for more of his adventures.
Conclusion:
As the series comes to an end with the final installment, let’s remember Joanne Kathleen Rowling. A woman who gave up her name to sound more masculine to be able to become a famed author, a woman who continuously fed our need to find out what happened next, a woman who gave us our childhood. In a recent interview JK Rowling admitted her favorite comment from a fan was that she was their entire childhood. To me, this fan couldn’t be more accurate. As Snape told Dumbledore, “Always.”
